Suede, velour and nubuck are undoubtedly very impressive materials. However, in order to keep them pleasing to the eye for a long time, you should take special care of them. We suggest how to clean these unique materials so that they retain their appearance for many years.

Suede

Suede is certainly one of the most delicate types of leather and, therefore, its cleaning should be exceptionally delicate. It is best to use special preparations, such as stain remover for suede and nubuck or renovator for suede and nubuck. Remember also never to wash suede in a washing machine or dry it on a radiator. This leather does not like humidity, so it is recommended to clean it dry only. You will need a soft brush that will brush away dirt and dust from the leather fibers and smooth them out effectively. What about tougher dirt, such as mud or salt on suede shoes? Dry ones from salt are best cleaned immediately after coming home. For muddy ones, wait until the dirt dries – then it will be easier to remove with a brush without rubbing too much and risking damage to the material. Never use a hair dryer or any other source of hot air to speed up the drying process – the best method here is to put newspapers inside the shoes. There are also several home methods for cleaning suede such as wiping suede shoes with a cloth soaked in vinegar, wiping them with a mixture of milk and baking soda or cleaning the material with a breadcrumb. Keep in mind, however, that all of these methods may be slightly less effective and safe for your shoes or gloves than using professional products such as shoe cream

Velour

Velour is an extremely impressive material that looks especially beautiful on furniture, giving it a soft and noble look. After all, it is a material that has been considered luxurious for years. So how to clean it properly? As in the case of suede, the best solution is delicate and specially designed preparations. When a stain appears on your velour upholstery, first of all deal with it as soon as possible – the sooner you start removing the stain, the more sure it is that you will achieve the desired effect. First, remove as much liquid as possible from the stained area using a cloth or paper towels. Then, vacuum the furniture thoroughly so that the dust does not roll off, and then wipe the stain with a mild detergent. Apart from special detergents, you can also use ammonia solution (2 tablespoons per one liter of water). Remember, however, that every stain should be cleaned in the direction of the hair on the fabric, as velour does not like to be cleaned against the hair.

Nubuck

Next to suede and grain leather, nubuck is the most frequently used material for manufacturing various types of shoes. This material is used for both sports and typical outdoor shoes. However, cleaning it may turn out to be quite a challenge, therefore we suggest how to do it effectively. First of all, remember to always clean nubuck dry, using a soft bristle brush and a special nubuck eraser. However, if you do not have it, a breadcrumb can be used. Remember also that the structure of nubuck requires special care on a daily basis, not only when the shoes get dirty, so it is worth combing the material with a brush every day.
